The Ernest Signature Homes Commitment to Reducing Savannah's New Construction Waste

Every day, homebuilders in Savannah, GA produce hundreds of pounds of construction waste. Piles of cardboard, lumber, drywall, plastic and metal accumulate, only to be carted off to a landfill, where they become part of the rapidly increasing drain on our environment’s resources. At Ernest Signature Homes, we’re always looking for ways to “go green” and contribute in any way we can to preserving the planet for generations to come. To make sure we don’t add to the acres of land sacrificed to landfills, we’ve partnered with Green Acres Recycling! This innovative, forward-thinking recycling facility opened in early 2013, the brainchild of local entrepreneur Jim Lientz. His goal was to take the huge amounts of locally generated construction waste, sort it, recycle it, and begin the process all over again. The recycled materials are converted into inputs for topsoil, fertilizers, fuels and fiber mills, among other uses. The company currently processes up to 200,000 pounds of waste material every day. They estimate that 60 to 80 percent of the debris they take in daily will eventually cycle back into the market in another form. Check out the Green Acres Recycling Video by clicking the link! We place all of our leftover materials into one dumpster, no matter what they are, and have it delivered to their facility by one of their hauling companies. The trash is unloaded, and they handle the rest. It couldn’t be simpler! Even better, it is a highly economical choice for disposing of our new construction waste, as it is comparable in cost to burying all the excess materials in a landfill. Everyone wins when we plan for a cleaner, healthier future, and we’d like to thank Green Acres Recycling for providing us with a way to “pay it forward”. Taking care of the environment is high on our list of priorities, as is working with local businesses to grow the economy of Savannah and its surrounding areas. We know you feel the same way, and would be excited to hear about our new partner in our mission to protect the earth for our children and our children’s children.
