How Long Does It Take to Build a New Home?
On average, an Ernest home takes 4–6 months to build, depending on weather, permitting, materials, and customization. Below is a clear breakdown of what happens in each stage and how long it typically takes.
1. Pre-Construction Phase (1–3 Months)
Budgeting & Financing: Get pre-approved, finalize your budget, and choose a lender. (If you need one, our team can recommend trusted partners.)
Homesite Selection & Design Choices: Choose your community, floor plan, and structural options. You’ll also finalize your purchase agreement during this phase.
Permits & Approvals: Local municipalities review your plans and issue permits. This process varies but generally takes several weeks.
Pre-Construction Meeting: Before building begins, you'll meet with your Project Manager and New Home Consultant to review your selections and layout expectations.
2. Construction Phase (4–6 Months)
Note: The first several weeks of construction are highly dependent on weather. Heavy rain or prolonged storms can extend this period.
Site Prep & Foundation: The land is cleared, utilities are prepared, and the foundation is poured and cured.
Framing: Your home takes shape as walls, floors, and the roof structure are built. Once dried-in, windows, exterior doors, and roofing materials are installed.
Mechanical Systems: Rough-ins for plumbing, electrical, and HVAC are completed.
Insulation & Drywall: Your home becomes fully enclosed as insulation is installed and drywall is hung, taped, and finished.
Interior Finishes: This is where the fun begins—cabinets, LVP flooring, countertops, paint, tile, trim, and fixtures are completed to bring your design choices to life.
3. Final Phase (2–3 Weeks)
Quality Checks & Inspections: Multiple internal and third-party inspections ensure everything is safe, functional, and polished.
New Home Orientation: We walk you through your finished home, review features, demonstrate systems, and explain maintenance and warranty details.
Closing & Move-In: It’s time to sign the final documents, receive your keys, and start enjoying life in your brand-new Ernest home!
