Outdoor Adventures in Savannah: Exploring Parks, Lakes, and Trails

One of the many things to look for when searching for your new home is a location and a community that fit your needs and lifestyle. If you’re an adventurer who seeks a place with tons of outdoor activities, Savannah, GA is the place for you!

Summer in Savannah is a beautiful time of year. Although the weather can get pretty steamy, Savannah and its surrounding area have plenty of activities that make the balmy days enjoyable. Here are some of the best ways to get outside and explore all the region has to offer.

  • The Parks, Squares & Historic Streets

Savannah begs you to be outdoors, reveling in its natural beauty. Stroll or bike along picturesque cobblestone streets. Contemplate the gardens and fountains. Picnic under shady trees in one of the historic squares. Explore the city via a trolley, horse-drawn carriage or riverboat. The city is yours to fall in love with.

  • Beaches

During the summer, the nearby ocean beckons. Stretch out on the beach at Tybee Island, and take a dip in the Atlantic Ocean. Kids love playing in the sand and frolicking in the waves. Comb the beach for shells, sea glass, or sand dollars. For the science-y types, visit the Tybee Island Marine Science Center. The historic tour of the island is fun, too!

  • Waterways

The scenic waters around Tybee Island – the Savannah, Ogeechee or Vernon – are some of the best rivers to kayak or canoe. Explore Little Tybee's nature preserve and get to know the coastal wildlife. Rent surfboards or boats. Spot dolphins or go fishing. Take in the flora and fauna along salt marshes, barrier islands, and swamps.

  • Trails

Savannah offers a variety of scenic trails just perfect for hiking & biking. Here are a few trails that you’ll love: Forsyth Park, McQueens Trail, the Savannah and Ogeechee Canal, Skidaway Island State Park, Tom Triplett Park Trail, Whitmarsh Island Preserve Trail, and Fort McAllister State Park.

  • Golf Courses

Savannah's courses are among Georgia's best. The city provides a selection of public and private golf courses with picturesque backdrops for players of all skill levels to enjoy. From the dramatic views at The Club at Savannah Harbor to the challenging layout at The Savannah Golf Club, there is a course to suit your skills.

  • Baseball Games

For sports lovers or those looking for fun, catch a Savannah Bananas baseball game. The games start in February and run through September. Snack on traditional baseball game fare (like popcorn, peanuts or hotdogs), put your name into drawings for cool prizes, and have an awesome night with the family!
